Water Retention Tips

Our bodies are made up of mostly water. It’s in our blood, muscles, organs, and bones. Sometimes, when your body holds on to too much of it, water retention occurs, and it causes puffiness and swelling, which adds a few pounds to us and makes us look more swollen than usual.

However, water retention can be easily beaten with a few handy tips!

Here’s 5 ways you can use to get rid of a puffy face:

1. Adequate Hydration

Many think that drinking lots of water can lead to a bloated face, but that’s actually a myth. In fact, dehydration can cause blood vessels to enlarge, which leads to water retention and makes your face puffy.

2. Reduce Salt

One of the main reasons for your face to swell up is the high content of salt in the body. Salt tends to retain water in the body that causes puffiness. Avoid carbonated drinks and always look for the level of sodium content in packaged products.

3. Increase fiber intake

Increase fiber in your diet if you want to prevent your face from getting bloated. Organic foods that contain cactus fiber, barley and potassium significantly helps reducing water retention in the body. Additionally, fruits that contain Vitamin C, beta-carotene and antioxidants, can also prevent water retention in the skin. These also help to renew the skin and give it a bright glow.

4. Sweat it out

Try working out to lose the puffiness. Cardio and weight training will help you improve blood circulation and open up the pores.

5. Massage it

Lubricate your face with moisturizer or a facial massage oil. Massage your entire face lightly with your fingers. This process will help you push down excessive fluid in your face to lymph nodes in the neck.
